More about Eddie Def and DJ Cue

DJ Cue

DJ Cue is a Bay Area hip hop DJ, producer, and founding member of the Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters alongside Eddie Def and DJ Quest — the crew behind Hamster Breaks (1993), one of the first DJ toolkit records in hip hop history. Active since 1986 and rooted in the DJ culture of Daly City, California, Cue built his foundation running Cue’s Record Shop in the 90s, a cornerstone of the Bay Area underground scene. His debut release Cue’s Hip Hop Shop Vol. 1 on Dogday Records in 1998 established his reputation as both a technical DJ and a producer with deep musical instincts. Now returning with OG Hamster, a collaborative album with Eddie Def, DJ Cue brings nearly four decades of audio production experience to a project that balances scratch artistry with full musical composition. With a background that spans professional IT architecture alongside his music career, he approaches both disciplines with the same precision, purpose, and forward thinking. djcue.com

Eddie Def

Eddie Def is a San Francisco-born turntablist and producer whose career runs deep through the Bay Area underground and well beyond it. He co-founded the Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters with DJ Quest and DJ Cue — a crew that shaped the direction of turntablism in the early 90s and left a lasting mark on DJ culture globally. Before that, he was part of Elements of Change, a 1991 hip hop project with Bay Area rapper T-Mor on Hella Records. As a member of El Stew and through collaborations with artists including Mike Patton, Buckethead, and Bill Laswell, Eddie Def has consistently pushed into territory where hip hop meets experimental and avant-garde sound. His solo catalog documents a restless creative voice that never settled into formula. OG Hamster brings him back together with DJ Cue for a project rooted in their shared history and built for where they are now.

Drum Machine Technicians

Before OG Hamster, Cue and Eddie Def were already deep in the lab together as Drum Machine Technicians — a side collective that stripped everything back to the machines. No hooks, no features, no filler. Just two producers locked in on rhythm, texture, and the raw mechanics of beat construction across four full albums. DMT is where their chemistry as collaborators was forged, and that foundation is all over what they’ve made here.
